Fiber optics, what is it?

Fiber optics, what is it?

What is it?

An optical fiber is a thin wire of glass or plastic, thinner than a hair, which conducts light and is surrounded by a sheath. The light signal injected into the optical fiber is capable of carrying large amounts of data at the speed of light over long distances. Optical fiber is capable of carrying rates up to 1000 times higher than copper and 100 times higher than coaxial.

How does it work?

There are two types of fiber distribution, the FTTN-fiber to the node and the FTTH-fiber to the home.

With the FTTN, the fiber arrives at a distribution point, the dispatcher, serving a set of buildings and is then connected to the copper network to the subscriber. The speed is then higher than copper, but still more limited than on the fiber at home.

With fiber at home, the fiber is delivered directly to the home of the subscriber. This technology is distinguished by its reliability and speed far superior to other types of Internet. It is this technology that Cooptel uses, which guarantees you a stable connection that is faster!
